Competenceis and duties of the aforementioned Laboratory are to: (a) estimate and classify olive oil production in Syria according to the Syrian Standardization and Metrology, and the International Standardization standards adopted by the International Council for Olive Oil; (b) carry out the analysis of olive, olive oil and product samples according to the International Standardization standards adopted by the International Council for Olive Oil; (c) carry out experiments and studies related to olive oil technology in cooperation with universities and research institutes; (d) cooperate with the Syrian Standardization and Metrology to modernize the SSM according to the International Standardization and Metrology standards adopted by the International Council for Olive Oil; (e) study and define the requirements and standards of Syrian olive oil according to the types and production zones; and (f) make efforts for the adoption of the SSM by the International Council for Olive Oil.
