The principle of precedence of hygienic requirements of waters for human consumption and for fish husbandry shall be complied with. The coastal zone is divided into regions of water utilization and into sanitary belt under this regulation. The water utilization regions have a width of at least one nautical mile and the sanitary belt's boundaries are those of the territorial waters of Bulgaria. Standards of water quality are shown in the Annex. Within the water utilization regions the discharge of treated and untreated industrial or household waste waters is prohibited. In the territorial waters of Bulgaria, in harbours and internal waters, it is prohibited to dump or submerge from vessels any solid or liquid waste and any other substance harmful for human health and for the flora and fauna of the sea.
