It prohibits fishing for blue whiting beyond the established quotas. The total allowable catch for Norwegian vessels is 378 766 of blue whiting in Norway's territorial sea and Exclusive Economic Zone, fishing zones around Jan Mayen and Svalbar, and in international waters. Rules are laid down regulating vessel allocation accordig to fishing gear used, by-catch, use of fishing quotas throughout the year, transshipment, etc. The Directorate of Fisheries can order a fishing halt when the quotas have been fished up.
