Résumé This Regional Law establishes plenary powers of the regional government in the sphere of protection of the traditional way of life, traditional rights and traditional economic activities of indigenous peoples living on the regional territory and is aimed at ensuring their rights to the traditional socio-economic and cultural development. Indigenous peoples shall be considered peoples living in the territories of the traditional settlement of their ancestors, preserving the traditional way of life, economic activities and crafts, counting in the Russian Federation less than 50 thousand people and aware of themselves as independent ethnic communities. Territories of traditional economic management shall be considered protected natural territories formed for traditional environmental management and traditional way of life of indigenous peoples. Traditional nature management by indigenous peoples shall be considered historically established and ensuring sustainable use of natural resources ways of management wild fauna and wild flora species, other natural resources by indigenous peoples. This Regional Law shall be applicable also to persons who belong to indigenous peoples, constantly live in places of traditional residence and traditional economic activities of indigenous peoples and for which traditional management and performance of traditional crafts are subsidiary activities in relation to the main type of activity in other sectors of the economy, socio-cultural sphere, government bodies and local self-government bodies.
