Résumé

This Recommendation amends the Recommendation GFCM/42/2018/1 to strengthen existing transitional measures in 2022 while continuing work towards informing future long-term management measures for 2023. This Recommendation modifies Paragraph 3 regarding all activities catching European eel to be covered by the multiannual management plan; Paragraph 19 regarding the options to be applied by the Contracting Parties in the closure period; and Paragraph 27 regarding the transmission of available data to the GFCM Secretariat where IUU fishing is known to occur. Furthermore, this Recommendation inserts Paragraph 19 bis on requiring the Contracting Parties by the Compliance Committee to take the necessary measures in case they fail to comply with the obligations referred to in paragraph 19; and Paragraph 20 bis on the prohibition of recreational fishing of European eel at all stages (glass eel, yellow eel and silver eel) in all habitats. This Recommendation repeals Paragraph 47 regarding recreational fishing of European eel.
