They implement Articles 48 and 53 of Council Directive 96/29/Euratom. The Chief Inspector appointed under the Radioactive Substances Act 1993 shall investigate the condition of land which is believed to be causing lasting exposure to ionizing radiation and serve an intervention notice upon the responsible person requiring that person to carry out out the necessary actions set out in these Regulations.
