This Act enters into force immediately.
Résumé

This Act, consisting of 58 sections divided into twelve Chapters and completed by four Schedules, provides for comprehensive management of all water resources in the Punjab aiming to regulate their use in the interest of conservation and sustainability and related matters. The Government shall establish the Punjab Water Resources Commission entitled to carry out the following functions: conserving, redistributing or otherwise augmenting water resources in the Punjab; allocating water resources for domestic, agricultural, ecological, industrial or other purposes in different areas of the Punjab; and securing the proper use of water resources in the Punjab. In addition, the Government shall establish Punjab Water Services Regulatory Authority entitled to perform the following activities: ensure that the undertakers discharge their duties and perform their functions in accordance with the Act or any other law for the time being in force; revise tariffs set by water and sewerage undertakers. The Commission may appoint a company, a local government or a statutory authority to be the water undertaker or sewerage undertaker for any area. Every water undertaker shall develop and maintain an efficient and economical system of water supply within its area and to ensure that all such arrangements have been made for: providing supplies of water to premises in that area and for making such supplies available to persons who demand them; for maintaining, improving and extending the water mains and other pipes, as well as to duly approved industrial premises in a particular locality.
