Résumé This Act, consisting of 39 sections divided into nine Parts, provides for the protection and promotion of the rights and interests of the consumers, speedy redress of consumer complaints and for related matters. It establishes the consumer protection for any product which have been subsequently incorporated into another product or an immovable but does not include animals or plants or natural fruits and other raw products, in their natural state, that are derived from animals or plants. The manufacturer of a product shall be liable to a consumer for damages proximately caused by a characteristic of the product that renders the product defective when such damage arose from a reasonably anticipated use of the product by a consumer. Any person may file a complaint for violation of the provisions of sections 11, 16, 18 and 19 before the Authority who, on being satisfied that such is the case, fine the violator that may extend to fifty thousand rupees and which may be recovered as arrears of land revenue.
