This Act enters into force on the date of its signature by the President (15th November, 2006).
Résumé

This Act comprising 10 Articles aims to grant the Government the power and authority necessary to respond effectively and expeditiously to its need for premises. The main provisions of this Act include (i) granting the Government the power to reacquire possession and control of public premises that are occupied by other parties, either in the public interest or for other legal reasons; (ii) procedures for the reacquisition of public premises, which include (a) a written request from the Concerned Authority to the Minister of Legal Affairs and Constitutional Development, specifying the premises, the occupants, and the reasons for reacquisition; (b) a written Notice to Vacate issued by the Minister to the occupants, setting a specific period for them to vacate the premises and/or relinquish control; (c) a power to evict exercised by the Minister, with the assistance of the police, if the occupants fail to comply with the Notice to Vacate; (d) a right to appeal by any party aggrieved by the Decision of the Minister to a competent Court.
