Résumé

This Act shall apply to any domestic, captive or wild animal, including bird, beast, fish, reptile or insect. This Act sets forth provisions on the cruelty offence and penalties for the situations that cause unnecessary suffering to animals such as ill-treatment, overexploitation, torture, starvation, overloading, animal fighting, giving poisonous or injurious drugs or substances, inhumane treatment, and employing sick animals. Where the owner of an animal commits the cruelty offence, the Court may deprive the ownership of animal to prevent further cruelty and may giver order to remove or detain that animal for treatment. Moreover, in case that keeping the animal live would be cruel, the Court may give order to destroy the diseased or injured animal as soon as possible without unnecessary suffering. To this end, this Act lays down procedures and principles for the destroying of the diseased or injured animal by competent veterinary officers in the most humane manner possible. Lastly, this Act sets forth provisions on the authorities of the police officers when an offence under this Act is committed, and the awards for the informers.
