Résumé This Resolution consisting of 5 articles aims at forming a Ministerial Committee for Environmental Affairs under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister with the following main functions (i) develop the national policy for the protection, improvement, and preservation of the environment; (ii) review the legislation in force in the matter of environmental protection to link it to the current local conditions and to achieve the goals of national development in the agricultural, industrial, urban, social and health aspects; (iii) draw up a policy that ensures coordination between the efforts of local authorities and similar bodies abroad to ensure that pollution problems are faced; (iv) determine the tasks and responsibilities of ministries and agencies and follow-up the implementation of the various legislations to protect the environment. Article 3 establishes the formation of a technical secretariat under the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. The Technical Secretariat undertakes the following (i) preparing a draft national plan for environmental studies, and suggesting priorities for implementing the plans and policies it approves; (ii) studying researches referred to it by the ministerial committees or from the ministries and concerned authorities in the country in the field of environmental preservation; (iii) studying the proposals submitted to it that deal with environmental problems; (iv) studying the environmental legislations in the developed countries to propose the adoption of the rules appropriate to the Egyptian environment; (v) developing media campaigns to increase environmental awareness among authorities and citizens; (vi) follow up on the implementation of the committee’s decisions and organize the exchange of information between ministries, agencies, local authorities, similar bodies abroad, and international institutions.
