"Poison" means a thing specified in Schedule 1, 2 or 3, whereas "dangerous substance" means a thing specified in Schedule 4 or 5. The Minister may, by notice in the National Gazette, vary the Schedules. Sections 3 to 15 regulate the sale of poisons and dangerous substances. Sale of poison specified in the Schedules requires specified professional qualifications or a licence. Subject to this Act and to any other law, any person may sell to a purchaser who is known to the vendor to be engaged in mining, agriculture, horticulture or the keeping or breeding of animals a thing specified in Schedule 5 that is packed exclusively for the purpose of the industry in which the purchaser is engaged. A pharmacist or the holder of a poisons licence must keep a Poisons Register under section 16. Sections 23 and following concern labelling and packing poisons and dangerous substances. Other sections of this Act provide for inspection and regulation making powers of the Head of State. (32 sections completed by 6 Schedules).
