They specify requirements for entry of plants, plant material and other regulated articles in the sense of the Plant Quarantine Act into Tonga. An Inspector may request plants or regulated articles to be placed in quarantine in a port of entry and may order treatment of such goods and seizure and destruction of material imported without a permit. Applications for a permit to import plants, plant material or regulated articles shall be in the form as set out in the Schedule to these Regulations. The Regulations contain rules relative to the importation of: fruit and vegetables; timber; cut flowers; soil; packing material and other non-plant materials; and seed and other plant material capable of growth. They also regulate the release of phytosanitary certificates for the exportation of plants and treatment of non-living material to be exported.
