Résumé This Act concerns the exploration for and the exploitation of petroleum resources in submerged lands adjacent to the coast of Queensland, it consists of 152 sections and is divided into four Parts. Part 2 and 3 contain preliminary provisions on the application of the Act and other laws. Part 4 covers all matters related to mining for petroleum. From graticulation of the surface (sect. 17), to reservation of blocks (sect. 18), to exploration for petroleum (sect. 19), to all the procedure for the granting of permits and licences for activities related to petroleum exploitation. Section 119 provides for the creation of safety zones in the areas around wells or other equipment. Other provisions concern scientific investigations (sect. 123), inspectors and their powers (sects. 125 – 130), offences, permit and licence fees and royalties. Part 4 contains miscellaneous provisions. The Act is completed by two schedules, one containing the text of the Convention on the Continental Shelf and one specifying the area that includes the adjacent area.
