The Department of Agriculture is in charge of the enforcement of federal legislation on wine and wine growing. In particular, the Viticulture Office is entrusted with the following tasks: to authorize or deny the implantation of new vine plants; keep a Wine Register; organize, carry out and control the harvest of grapes; classify various grapes; cooperate with cantonal associations of wine growers; provide expertise on wine growing. A special commission entitled to grant labels DOCs shall be appointed. All wine growers shall report within the end of April all the required information to the cantonal Wine Register.
