Résumé

This Ordinance provides for conditions and procedures for using experimental animals, minimum zoo-hygiene parameters and criteria for animal welfare when keeping in stock and using experimental animals and obligations of the control authorities. Procedures for obtaining permission to use animals for experimental and other scientific purposes are specified in Section II. Animals belonging to the species listed in Annex No. 1 must be specially bred to be used for experimental and other scientific purposes. Endangered animal species shall be used for experimental and other scientific purposes only in the case of research aimed at preservation of the endangered species in question or for scientific research of exceptional importance in the field of medicine. It is prohibited to use stray dogs and cats for experimental and other scientific purposes and the use of wild animals in experiments is admissible where it is not practicable to achieve the objectives of the experiment by using other animals (Section III). The owners and managers of the establishments for breeding, keeping in stock and/or supplying animals, and of the establishments where animals are used for experiments shall follow provisions specified in Section IV. The owners of the establishments for breeding, keeping in stock and/or supplying experimental animals and establishments where animals are used for experiments shall register their activity to the Regional Veterinary Service. Experiments with animals shall be performed by persons who have the required theoretical and practical knowledge about manipulations and care for the experimental animals, gained as a result of completion of a specialized course at an accredited training establishment under a programme approved by the National Veterinary Service (NVS).
