The territory of the park belongs to the Gorgan highlands of the Eastern Carpathians, where the mountainous terrain prevails. The park is a budgetary, non-profit, nature conservation, recreational, cultural and educational, scientific research institution and is part of the nature reserve fund of Ukraine, protected as a national property, with a special regime of protection, reproduction and management. The park was constituted with the aim of conservation, reproduction and rational use of natural resources of complexes and objects that have a special, educational and aesthetic value within different altitudinal zones of the southwest macroslopes of Gorgan. The main tasks of the park are: (a) preservation and reproduction of valuable natural and historical and cultural complexes and natural objects, in particular wild fauna and wild flora species, and natural habitats thereof, listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and international Red Lists; (b) creation of conditions for organized tourism, recreation and other types of recreational activities in natural conditions with observance of the security regime of protected complexes and objects; (c) organization and implementation of research works, including studies of natural complexes and their changes under conditions of recreational use, development and implementation of scientific recommendations on protection issues related to natural environment, reproduction of certain types of flora and fauna, restoration of disturbed ecosystems, management and effective use of natural resources, organization and conduct of monitoring of landscape and biological diversity; and (d) carrying out ecological educational work.
