The task of Water Council are to develop recommendations and proposals on: (a) national policy priorities in the field of water management; (b) determination of national priorities in the field of water supply by river basins and within basins, as well as by sectors (combining the priorities of the agricultural, industrial and municipal sectors); (c) redistribution of water resources between regions and consumers and, if necessary, setting quotas; (d) definition of standards for environmental protection; (e) funding rules for the industry (access to public/private financing and general charges collected from consumers); (f) determining the organizational policy of the water management sector; and (g) development of positions and approaches on issues of interaction with neighboring countries on the joint use of transboundary water resources.
