Résumé This Order sets regulations on oil discharge from ships (does not apply to warships or other ships owned or operated by the state, as long as they are used exclusively for non-commercial purposes). It includes detailed territorial definitions which are subject to this regulation. Should dumping at sea take place, the following criteria are applied: tankers located more than 50 miles from the nearest land; tankers proceeding en route; instantaneous rate of discharge of oil not exceeding 30 lt. per mile; total quantity of oil discharged into the sea for oil tankers delivered (registered) prior to 31 December 1979 and that does not exceed 1/15.000 of the total amount of the particular cargo and for tankers delivered after 31 December 1979, with 1/30.000 of the total quantity of cargo; tankers using a system of monitoring oil discharge and a scheme of gulleys, in adherence to rules 29 and 31 of the Maritime Authority B notification, Technical regulation for ship construction and equipment, Chapter XXI. Discharge of oil in Antarctic marine territories is not allowed, and vessels are required to pre-notify of their planned navigation and have an agreement on transportation and delivery of oil, subject to approval from Maritime Authorities or other EU authorities and institutes, or from other MARPOL convention countries.
