Résumé This Procedure defines the mechanism for organizing epidemiological surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of invasive pathogens, their interaction with each other in the process of its implementation, and the transfer of information to the Ministry of Health and health care institutions for the development of measures to combat the spread of microorganisms with resistance. It is intended for medical workers of health care institutions and natural persons - entrepreneurs who have received a license for the right to conduct economic activity from medical practice, as well as for public health institutions. Coordination, organizational-methodical and informational advisory support for the implementation of sentinel epidemiological surveillance of antimicrobial resistance is entrusted to the state institution "Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine". Epidemiological surveillance of AMR shall be intended a systematic ongoing process of data collection and analysis for quantitative assessment of the prevalence of AMR and its dynamics over time. The obtained epidemiological data, depending on the level and nature of resistance, should be used for: (a) assessment of time trends, forecasting the probability of occurrence and spread of AMR, taking into account its mechanisms, ways of transmission, species affiliation of microorganisms with AMR, nosological forms of infectious diseases, caused by them, risk factors and characteristics of patients that contribute to the emergence of infectious diseases caused by microorganisms with AMR, their consequences for the patient and the health care system (for example, ineffectiveness of therapy, prolongation of hospitalization, increased cost of treatment); (b) informing the authorities of the health care system at the appropriate level about the situation, with the aim of developing a strategy to curb the spread of AMR and carrying out appropriate measures; (c) implementation of technologies, procedures and methods for the timely and reliable detection of microorganisms with AMR into the work practice of microbiological/bacteriological laboratories; (d) update of recommendations on empiric antimicrobial therapy, changes of standards of clinical protocols; and (e) integration of data into the system of epidemiological surveillance of resistance to antimicrobial drugs in Central Asia and Europe and into the system of global monitoring of resistance to antimicrobial drugs.
