Résumé

The purposes of this Act are to: (a) achieve a fair, equitable, and final settlement of all claims to Federal reserved water rights in the State of Montana of the Cheyenne Tribe and the United States on behalf of the Cheyenne Tribe; (b) enter into an agreement with the State of Montana for the planning, environmental compliance, design and construction of the Tongue River Dam Project in order to protect water rights, to provide for additional storage capacity for water and provide for the conservation of fish and wildlife resources, and; (c) to provide for the enhancement of fish and wildlife habitat in the Tongue River basin (sect. 2). There is established a trust fund to be known as the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reserved Water Rights Settlement Trust Fund under section 6. Part of the Fund shall be used to make a loan to the State of Montana and the rest may be used for administration and development of the Reservation, land acquisition by the Tribe, and any other purposes determined by the Tribe.
