The Ordinance consist of 121 articles divided into 13 Chapters: Preliminary (I); Reserved forests (II); Village forests (III); Protected forests (IV); Control of Guzara forests and wastelands (V); The control over mazri and mazri produce (VI); The duty and fees of timber and other forest produce (VII); The control of timber and other forest produce in transit (VIII); The collection of drift and stranded timber (IX); The sale and sawing of timber (X); The forest protection, penalties and procedure (XI); Forest management (XII); The forest officers, powers and obligations (XIII); Miscellaneous (XIV). The Ordinance establishes the procedure for the constitution of reserved forests by the Government on lands owned by the Government or over which it has proprietary rights. A Forest Settlement Board shall be appointed to enquire into all claims presented and shall publish a notification specifying the limits of the forest which shall be deemed a reserved forest. Article 26 lists the acts prohibited in reserved forests. The Government may assign reserved forests to any village community and may declare any forest land or waste land, which is not included in a reserved forest, a protected forest. The Government may establish protection measures, such as reserve trees, close forests, etc. as specified in article 30. Article 33 lists acts which are prohibited in protected forests. Land owners of the village whose boundaries include Guzara forests and wastelands, may use free of charge trees and forest produce but they may not sell any tree, timber or any other forest produce growing on such lands. The Government shall provide for better protection, preservation, propagation and control of mazri and mazri produce.
