Ten strategic objectives are set out, namely : 1) to produce 1.8 billion quality tree seedlings by 2022 needed to increase tree cover to 10%; 2) to implement national policies , legislation and rules that require increased tree planting by 2022; 3) to strengthen institutional capacity of Kenya Forest Service to implement its mandate, including fire management and law enforcement and compliance strengthened; 4) to enhance conservation and protection of natural forests on public, community and private lands and rehabilitation of degraded areas; 5) to strengthen coordination and collaboration in the governance of the forest sector; 6) to establish commercial forest plantation on public, private and community lands to provide adequate and sustainable timber, poles and fuelwood for industrial and domestic consumption; 7) to implement innovative restoration programmes; 8) to enhance national tree planting campaigns through national and county tree planting events, public education and awareness; 9) to adopt use of alternative energy sources and efficient wood conversion and utilization technologies by institutions, industry and households; 10) to strengthen forest resources assessment, monitoring and reporting capabilities of forest sector institutions.
