Résumé

The Act establishes the power of the Government to declare any area as a national park or reserve by notification in the Official Gazette. Article 5 lists out all the actions that are prohibited within the protected area, which include, inter alia, occupation of land, harvesting of crops, grazing animals, damaging forest products, etc. As far as hunting is concerned, the Act provides for the issuance of a licence by the conpetent officer, the fixation of an annual quota for hunting, the prescription of periods during which hunting may be prohibited and the collection of samples. Schedule one lists out wild life that is deemed to be protected wildlife and whose hunting is therefore prohibited. Further provisions concern the powers of the officer designated by the Government in case of contravention.
