Résumé

This Act establishes the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency as the coordinating and monitoring body on the implementation of Federal Government policies on National Oil Spill Contingency Plan. There is also established for the Agency a Governing Board to be known as the National Oil Spill Response Governing Board. The Agency shall be a body corporate and shall, among other things: (a) be responsible for surveillance and ensure compliance with all existing environmental legislation and the detection of oil spills in the petroleum sector; (b) receive reports of oil spillages and coordinate oil spill response activities throughout Nigeria;(c) coordinate the implementation of the Plan as may be formulated, from time to time, by the Federal Government; (d) coordinate the implementation of the Plan for the removal of hazardous substances as may be issued by the Federal Government. The Agency shall establish a fund.
