Entry into force notes

The Decree enters into force on the date of publication in the Official Gazette.

Résumé

This Decree approves the Decision by the Supreme Council of Chemistry by which is approved the harmonisation of the Greek legislative frame with Directive 1999/2/EC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States concerning foods and food ingredients treated with ionizing radiation and Directive 1999/3/EC on the establishment of a Community list of foods and food ingredients treated with ionising radiation. Therefore, article 30 is added to the Food Code, dealing with this matter. The provisions of this article shall apply to the manufacture, marketing and importation of foods and food ingredients, treated with ionizing radiation. The conditions which must be fulfilled for authorization of the treatment of foodstuffs with ionizing radiation are set out in Annex I. Also, the foodstuffs that may be treated with ionising radiation and the maximum overall average dose that may be imparted are listed in the Annex IV. The Greek Atomic Energy Commission shall be the competent authority for: the initial approval of installations of radiation; the issuing of official report number of approved installations; the official control and inspection; the withdrawal or the modification of approval.
