Aurochs of basic genetic fund shall be aurochs representing selection value in high physical conditions. Aurochs of reserve genetic fund shall be animals in state of exhaustion for the period over 6 months, diseased animals, injured animals, animals with abnormalities in physical development, females of over 18 years of age and males over 14 years of age, young males ousted from the population that have migrated for more than 50 kilometres and did not return to the population. Aurochs of basic genetic fund are endangered animals and protected animal species and can be exclusively state property. Basic arrangements for the protection of aurochs shall include: (a) conservation of the existing micropopulations; (b) creation of new populations through stock enhancement and repopulation; (c) selection activity and cross-breeding; (d) elaboration of efficient methods for improvement of auroch immunity; and (e) implementation of programmes and arrangements for conservation and rational management of aurochs.
