An ISM company must not operate a ship to which these Regulations apply unless the requirements in these Regulations are complied with in relation to that ship. An ISM company is either the owner of a ship or a person that has assumed responsibility for the operation of the ship and has agreed with the owner to take over all the duties and responsibilities imposed by the ISM Code. A designated person shall, among other things, monitor the safe and efficient operation of that ship, with particular regard to safety and pollution prevention aspects. A Certifying Authority may suspend or cancel any relevant document issued these Regulations on, among other things, pollution prevention considerations.
