The Act contains at the outset a definition clause relating to various terms therein employed, such as “Agency”, “animal food”, “ante-mortem examination”, “control programme”, “farmed game animal”, “food additive”, "HACCP plan", “ham”, "hermetically sealed container", “inspection” and "pre-packaged". The text consists of 137 sections divided into 5 Parts as follows: Standards (I); Registration (II); Examination, inspection, humane treatment and slaughter, packaging and labelling (III); Trade (IV); Administration (V). Four Schedules are enclosed as follows: Standards for meat products (I); Permitted weights for pre-packaged meat products (II); Meat inspection legend (III); Processing and labelling requirements for meat products (IV).
