These Measures enter into force on 1 June 1997.
Résumé

The purpose of these Measures is to provide for the protection, development and rational use of wildlife resources and the maintaining of ecological balances. The Text consists of 21 Articles. The explanation of wildlife under protection of these Measures are given by article 3. The Departments of forestry and fisheries shall be responsible for administration of terrestrial and aquatic wildlife. The departments of wildlife administration of the municipal people's government shall carry out a survey of wild animal resources every ten years, and establish a resource file. Any individual or unit domesticating or breeding wildlife which is under key protection of state or Beijing Municipality, must apply for the permission. The remaining articles make provisions, inter alia, for hunting, sale and purchase of wildlife, transportation of wildlife and awards and penalties.
