The present Act enters into force on 1 February 1988.
Résumé

This Act is divided up into 62 sections, and sets out provisions in respect of water services in Manitoba. Section 3 sets out the general objectives of the Manitoba Water Services Board, as follows: (a) the obtaining, development, transmission, distribution and control of water supplies for the domestic use of the people of the province, and (b) the collection, treatment and disposal of sewage. Sections 5-7 deal with the powers of the board including expropriation, right of entry, and the powers to use streets and highways. Sections 11-14 deal with applications from a municipality or water district to the board for assistance in developing water or sewage systems. Section 15 deals with the sale of excess supply of water and sections 16-17 outline the provisions in respect of rates and prices. Powers and Duties of Municipalities and Water Districts are highlighted at section 18. The Act also deals with Borrowing between sections 19-24 and includes details of the Sinking Fund. The boards' administrative procedures are set out in sections 25-38. Relevant provisions with regards to legal proceedings can be found under sections 39-42. Notably, all actions and other proceedings by or against the board shall be instituted in the name of the Crown. Revenues, Accounts taxation and charges are set out in sections 43-52. Between sections 53-54, provisions are made with regard to emergency controls in respect of water supply. The remaining sections deal with offences and penalties as well as general provisions.
