Résumé The purpose of the present Law is to promote the breeding of animals in such a way that: a) their performance and the value of animal products are conserved and improved; b) animal products be of high quality; c) new breeding methods are to be applied promptly; d) the genetic variety is conserved. The Law applies to the breeding of cattle, swine, sheep, goats and equine animals. The text consists of 31 articles divided into 5 Parts as follows: General provisions (1); Breeding organizations, assessment of breeding value and publication of data (2); Transfer of breeding animals and semen, egg cells and embryos and their use (3); Competent authorities, Animal Breeding Commission, monitoring, export, ordinance, municipalities, penalties (4); Final provisions (5).
