Résumé

The overall goal of the Government of Balochistan livestock policy is to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and diseases. Balochistan is also a contributor to the development of the country. Livestock being the mainstay of most rural households contributes significantly to the livelihoods of the people. The Livestock Department seeks a policy for sustainable growth of the livestock sector in the province. Livestock Department in the past aimed at increasing production of livestock and its products. However, the recommended animal protein requirements of the population have not been met. Majority or the livestock farmers are poor and food insecure mainly due to low productivity, high cost of farm inputs and lack of market facilities. The potential of the livestock sector has, therefore not been fully exploited. There is a potential for camel rearing in most or the areas in the Province. The importance of camel for food security is due to its ability to survive and continue being productive under drought conditions.
