Résumé This Law establishes general bases for the protection and promotion of gender equality as fundamental values of the constitutional order of the Republic of Croatia, and defines and regulates the method of protection against discrimination based on gender and the creation of equal opportunities for women and men. No one may suffer adverse consequences for having given a statement before the competent authority as a witness or victim of discrimination based on gender or for warning the public about a case of discrimination. The provisions of this Act may not be interpreted or applied in a way that would limit or diminish the content of the guarantees on gender equality that stem from the general rules of international law, the acquis of the European Community, the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the United Nations Treaties on Civil and political rights, i.e. economic, social and cultural rights, and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
