Résumé The scope of this Law is to regulate relations in the field of ensuring seismic safety of the population and the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Seismic safety shall be intended the state of life security of the population and infrastructure facilities by state bodies and organizations in the field of seismic safety from the dangers caused by earthquakes. Seismic safety facilities by importance are classified into the following categories: I category - objects with a low hazard factor; Category II - objects with an average hazard factor; Category III - objects with a high hazard factor; Category IV - objects with a very high hazard factor. The list of seismic safety facilities by category is determined in accordance with the annex to this Law. The main directions of state policy in the field of ensuring seismic safety are: (a) improvement of the legal framework for providing seismic safety; (b) taking measures to improve the level of seismic safety; (c) monitoring and control of seismic resistance of buildings and facilities in operation, as well as leased into operation; (d) instrumental seismological and seismometric observations on reservoirs located on the national territory; (e) monitoring the seismic resistance of reservoirs and other hydraulic structures located on the national territory; (f) introduction of modern information and communication technologies in this field; (g) improvement of scientific foundations and technologies for providing seismic safety; (h) implementation by state bodies of measures aimed at reducing harm to health and life of people and property of the population, as well as the risk of losses (material, economic and other) as a result of earthquakes; (i) development of research work and implementation in practice of modern methods of seismic hazard prediction, seismic risk and the probability of occurrence of earthquakes, as well as strengthening the seismic resistance of structures; and (j) development of international cooperation in this area. Natural and legal persons have the right to: (a) receive complete and reliable information about the level of seismic hazard in the relevant territory; (b) receive information about the rules of conduct in case of earthquakes and how to prepare for them; and (c) if necessary, to involve specialists to protect personnel and organization and teaching thereof for correct behavior during earthquakes. This Law contains V Chapters divided into 26 Articles. Chapter I lays down general provisions. Chapter II regards state regulation in the field of ensuring seismic safety. Chapter III regards organization of activity in the field of ensuring seismic safety.
