This Law regulates relations related to registration, legal protection and use of geographical indications, appellations of origin and guaranteed traditional product. The right of legal protection provided for by this Law applies only to agricultural products and food products, except for natural and mineral waters. Geographical indication shall be intended the name of a territory (locality), of a specific locality or, in exceptional cases, of a country which is used to designate products which originate from a given territory, locality or country, the specific quality, reputation or other characteristics of which are mainly due to the geographical origin, which is produced and/or processed and/or which is produced in a given locality. Appellation of origin shall be intended the geographical name of a territory (locality), of a particular locality or, in exceptional cases, of a country used to designate products which originate from a given territory, locality or country and whose specific quality or other characteristics are mainly or exclusively due to those geographical natural conditions, including natural and human factors, and whose production, processing and manufacture takes place in a given locality. Traditional guaranteed product shall be intended an agricultural or food product, the specificity of which is recognized and registered in accordance with this Law. The main functions of the authorized state body within the framework of this Law shall be as follows: (a) acceptance, consideration, examination and registration of applications for registration of geographical indications, appellations of origin and guaranteed traditional product; (b) issuance on behalf of the state of certificates of the right to use geographical indications, appellations of origin; (c) maintenance of registers of geographical indications, appellations of origin and guaranteed traditional product, as well as the list of users of geographical indications and users of appellations of origin; (d) provision of information services with regard to geographical indications, appellations of origin and guaranteed traditional product; (e) representation of the Republic of Armenia in foreign and international organizations in the field of intellectual property; (f) performing other functions within its competence. The authorized state body shall publish information on registered geographical indications, appellations of origin and guaranteed traditional product, as well as other information on its activities in its official bulletin "Industrial Property". The Appeal Board of the authorized state body, the decision of which is considered to be the final decision of the authorized state body, resolves controversial issues related to the legal protection of geographical indications, appellations of origin and guaranteed traditional product. Any decision of the Board of Appeal may be appealed to the court. The Statutes of the Board of Appeal and its review procedure are approved by the Government. For wines shall be maintained in the labels the name of geographical area and, in exceptional cases, the name of the country. Wines with guaranteed origin and appellation of origin must have unique quality and characteristics, grapes for wine-making must grow exclusively in a given geographical area and wine must be obtained exclusively from the varieties Vitis vinifera.
