Résumé This Law regulates genetically modified organisms in the Republic of Armenia, including acceptance, import, testing, storage, management, application, examination, transportation, destruction, adverse effects on the environment, human health, biodiversity and in connection with ensuring biosecurity and protection of agricultural land. The purpose of this law is to prevent the violation of biosafety principles of the use of GMOs. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) (obtained by genetic engineering, transgenic) shall be intended an organism or several organisms, any non-cellular, single-celled or a multicellular organism capable of reproducing or transmitting hereditary genetic material that differentiates are obtained from natural organisms using genetic engineering methods and contain genetic engineering material, including genes, parts thereof or combinations of genes. Biosecurity related to the use of GMOs shall be intended a set of measures that guarantees the exclusion of any adverse effects of GMOs on the environment, human health and biodiversity. The sphere of application of this Law extends to agriculture, healthcare, environment applicable to processes related to the use of GMOs and biosecurity. In the Republic of Armenia, the use of GMOs intended for reproduction or their use in any other way is prohibited, except for those used by scientific research organizations in an isolated system in accordance with the requirements set by the Government for scientific research and demonstration purposes. Plant organisms intended for reproduction imported for the purpose of identifying GMOs are subject to laboratory examination by the authorized state body carrying out border control. The list of plant species subject to laboratory examination is determined by the Government. GMOs imported to the Republic of Armenia for research and demonstration purposes must be accompanied by a contract signed between the producing and importing organizations, specifying the use of GMO for scientific research and demonstration purposes.
