This Law enters into force 45 days after its publication.
Résumé

This Law, consisting of 31 articles divided into six Chapters, creates the State Code on Animal Protection within the State of Sergipe. This Code establishes the standards for animal protection in order to reconcile socio-economic development with environmental preservation. It specifies the requirements to be satisfied in order to preserve wild, exotic, native, and domestic animal health conditions, including those used for scientific purpose. The Law prohibits to perform the following activities: offending physically or psychologically animals, subjecting them to any type of experience, practice or activity causing them suffering or harm, as well as those that cause unacceptable conditions of existence; keeping animals in a place that is devoid of cleanliness or that prevents them from moving, resting or depriving them of air and light; forcing the animals to work excessively and to any act that results in suffering; causing slow and painful death to any animal whose slaughter is necessary for consumption or death to any animal whose euthanasia is regularly recommended by veterinary authority; etc.
