Résumé This Law establishes the Environmental Policy of the Federal District which aims to enable: I – cultural stimulus for the adoption of habits, customs and socio-economic practices that are not harmful to the environment; II – adaptation of rural and urban socio-economic activities to the environmental balance and of the natural ecosystems; III – preservation of renewable natural resources and the economic, rational use of non-renewable resources; III - preservation of renewable natural resources, promoting the well-being of the population; IV – technical and functional commitment of food products, goods and inputs in general; V - proper use of land and water resources intended for urban and rural purposes, and final disposal of waste; VI – guarantee of increasing levels of environmental health for communities and individuals, including through the provision of sanitary infrastructure and health conditions; VII – gradual, selective and prioritized replacement of processes and other potentially dangerous agricultural by others based on technology that are more compatible with environmental health; VIII - renewable resources must be extracted in a rational way.
