This Law enters into force on the day of its publication.
Résumé

This Law creates the State Code for Animal Protection, establishing within the State of Tocantins, aiming to reconcile socioeconomic development with environmental preservation, in line with the provisions of art. 32 of Law No. 9.605 of 12 February 1998. In particular, the Code prohibits: physically and/or psychologically harming animals, subjecting them to any experience causing physical or emotional suffering or damage; keep animals in dirty places or that prevent them from moving, resting or deprive them of air and natural light; forcing animals to work that is exorbitant or exceeds their strength; sell animals in a public environment, except in pet shops; enclosing animals with others that harass or terrorize them; sacrifice animals with poisons or other methods not recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and regulated by the Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine in prophylaxis programmes for rabies, leishmaniasis or any other fatal zoonosis. Wild animals, as well as their nests, eggs and shelters must be protected and are considered assets of common interest of the State of Tocantins.
