Résumé This Law, consisting of 48 articles divided into ten Chapters and one Annex, establishes the policy for the native birds management of the Brazilian and exotic fauna within the State of Santa Catarina. The policy of native bird management has the following objectives: protection, preservation and conservation of birds; creation, reproduction, marketing, maintenance, training, exhibition, transport, transfer, acquisition, custody, storage and use of birds; regulation of the tournaments and the championships that involve birds of the native and exotic fauna, created in domestic environment; and to promote the responsible use of birds, in compliance with the principles of sustainability, environmental balance and animal welfare. In addition, it lays down the requirements for register through the State Bird Control System (SECPA) and lists the categories of bird breeder's license for the Brazilian and exotic fauna.
