This Law enters into force on the day of its publication.
Résumé

This Law, consisting of 62 articles divided into eight Chapters, creates the State Irrigation Policy of Rio Grande do Sul, the Irrigation Master Plan in the Context of Multiple Water Uses, the State Irrigation Policy Management Council and the State Irrigation Fund. The State Irrigation Policy shall be executed in accordance with the National Irrigation Policy, created by Federal Law No. 12.787 of 11 January 2013; with the National Water Resources Policy, created by Federal Law No. 9.433 of 8 January 1997, and with the State Policy of Water Resources, created by Law No. 10.350 of 30 December 1994. The objectives of the State Irrigation Policy are: the prevailing social function and public utility of water resources use, in order to promote the sustainable use of natural resources and the preservation of the environment, as well as the well-being of irrigation activity; the compatibility of the demands of agricultural activities with the availability of water resources; the reduction of the climatic risks inherent to the agricultural activity; encouraging the adoption of practices aimed at the development of water reserves; improving management and efficiency through new irrigation methods and systems; increasing productivity and income generation from agricultural activities, especially for food production; promoting the use of irrigated technologies suited to the socio-economic conditions; diversification of crops in irrigated areas; priority to projects that increase the competitiveness and to less developed regions; encouraging projects that promote agroforestry integration.
