Résumé This Law establishes the National Policy on Yerba Mate, with the objective of promoting sustainable production, raising the quality standard, supporting and encouraging the commerce of yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) within the Brazilian territory. The principles and guidelines of the National Policy are: environmental, economic and social sustainability of the productive chain; raise standards of quality and safety of the product; research and technological development; use of the cultural, environmental, soil and climate diversity of the country for the production of yerba mate; reduction of bureaucracy and the adequacy of the norms that govern health, labour and environmental aspects related to the production, harvest, industrialization, commerce and consumption of the yerba mate, considering the social, cultural, local, regional and cultural system peculiarities; articulation and collaboration between the private sector and federal, state and municipal public bodies; stimulate local economies; and promote the consumption and development of new markets and industrial jobs created by Brazilian yerba mate.
