Résumé This Law, consisting of 17 articles divided into four Titles, provides for the State Policy on Food and Nutritional Security. This Policy will be made through an integrated set of governmental and non-governmental actions. The related planning of actions will be key for the public sector and indicative for the private sector, whose participation will be encouraged. The guidelines of the state policy for the promotion of food and nutritional security are: creation of Municipal Councils and the strengthening of the State Council for Food and Nutrition Security; consultative bodies for actions, at all levels, ensuring popular participation by representative organizations, in accordance with this Law and municipal legislation; creation of a state and municipal fund bounding to the respective Councils; support the implementation of the State Policy on Food and Nutrition; strengthen the Food and Nutrition Surveillance System; fight against poverty and maternal-infant-juvenile malnutrition as well as groups at nutritional risk; supporting the land tenure and strengthening family farming; support for generating income; creation, maintenance and improvement of specific programmes, observing the political-administrative decentralization; participation of the various segments of society; promotion of educational campaigns aimed at disseminating information on the nutritional principles for healthy food.
