This Law shall become effective after 120 days from 25 April 2001.
Résumé

This Law, consisting of 50 sections divided into eight Chapters, on Hygiene, Disease Prevention and Health Promotion has the function to determine the principles, regulations and measures relating to the organisation of activities on hygiene, disease prevention and health promotion to maintain the good health, quality of life and longevity of the people thus contributing to national preservation and development. The State promotes the investment by all socio-economic sectors, both domestic and foreign, in hygiene, disease prevention and health promotion by setting appropriate policies, regulations and measures in accordance with the laws of the Lao PDR. Hygiene includes hygiene in relation to persons, families, communities, water for use and consumption, food and consumption goods, buildings, hotels and guesthouses, schools and educational institutions, hospitals, dispensaries and clinics, labour, production, construction and maintenance sites, public places, markets, funerals, the environment and others. All persons in a community have the obligation to dispose of solid and liquid waste, and to preserve the cleanliness of water sources, water for drinking or use, roads, drains and public places, in order to avoid the occurrence of disease and ensure orderliness and beauty for their own health and the health of the whole society.
