The amendments adopted regard Annexes A, B, and C in which 9 chemicals, five POPs pesticides, and four industrial POPs, have been added. As for the five POPs pesticides, they are banned with decisions taken by the pesticides registration committee in 1993 and 2001. They are not imported nor produced neither registered to be used in Jordan. The main focus of the Jordan NIP regarding the new industrial POPs is the identification and assessment of POP-PBDEs chemicals groups and establishes the inventories focused on (i) electrical and electronic equipment and WEEE for c-octaBDEs inventory; and (ii) transport sector for c-pentaBDEs inventory. The Ministry of Environment used the PBDEs inventory as a basis for the creation of a concrete project on reduction and elimination of POPs and other chemical releases through the implementation of environmentally sound management of E-Waste, healthcare waste, and priority U-POPs release sources associated with both general waste management activities and appropriate controls and bans on such POPs as PBDEs in imported products.
