Résumé

This Act implements provisions of the Agreement between the Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and the Commonwealth Secretariat for the establishment of the Iwokrama International Centre for Rain Forest Conservation and Development of 1995 as set out in the Second Schedule. The Centre shall be a body corporate. Article 23 to 30 of the Agreement shall have the force of law in Guyana. The Programme site as demarcated by section 4 of this Act shall be under the control of the Centre. Nothing in this Act shall be construed so as to alter, prejudice or affect rights of Amerindians legally or traditional possessed by them before commencement of this Act. The Centre shall divide the Programme Site into areas for the establishment and maintenance of rain Forest Wilderness Preserve and areas for the sustainable utilization of the multiple resources of the tropical rain forest. The areas shall be managed by the Centre in accordance with sections 8 and 9. The Centre may, with approval of the Government, make Regulations for carrying out the purposes of this Act.
