Salmon fishing outside 40 nautical miles from the coastline is prohibited in the NAFO area and outside the 12 nautical mile limit in the East Greenland fishing areas. Only people with a license for commercial fishing for salmon are authorized to sell salmon. Such licence is issued by the Government. The applicant shall have a permanent connection to the Greenlandic society, as defined by section 4 of the Act on fisheries. The Order sets out other conditions for the granting of a licence. Yearly total allowable catch shall be established yearly by the Government, taking into account international obligations. Commercial fishing for salmon may not commence before a specified date. It shall stop on the basis of a decision of the Government (when the catch quota is reached Fishing is permitted only by hooks or nets with a mesh of minimum 140 mm. The Order contains some rules regarding the sale of salmon caught commercially. All commercial salmon fishing must be reported to GFLK (Greenland Fishing Licence Control).
