Résumé

Requirements for quality and trade for fresh fruit and vegetables set minimum requirements for quality and trade for fresh fruits and vegetables intended for food consumption. These requirements do not apply to: (a) products grown in individual farms for own consumption; (b) products in transit or temporarily stored as transit; (c) products intended for industrial processing; (d) products for domestic processing, subject to marking "intended for domestic processing"; (e) products supplied by the manufacturer to air conditioning or storage facilities; and (f) products subject to cutting or finishing to bring them into a state of "readiness for food" or "readiness for consumption". When delivered to the market, fresh fruits and vegetables must be accompanied by a safety certificate. To the limit of tolerances, products must be: (a) whole; (b) good quality (products subject to rotting or deterioration, which makes them unfit for consumption, are not authorized for trade); (c) clean, practically free of any visible traces of foreign matter; (d) without pests; (e) without damage caused by pests affecting the flesh; (f) without excess external moisture; and (g) free of alien smell and/or taste. On each package, the following data, grouped on one side, must be affixed in a manner clear, indelible and visible from the outside: 1) identification - packer and/or sender: name and address that can be replaced by a single identification code (IDNO) indicating near the "packer and / or sender" (or equivalent abbreviations); 2) the nature of the product: a) the name of the product; b) variety denomination (selectively); 3) the origin of the product - full name of the country of origin and, selectively, the area of cultivation, or a national, regional or local name. This label must be written in the language of the country of origin or in any other language understandable to consumers in the country of destination.
