The Environment Agency is administrative body, subordinated to the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and the Environmental Protection, responsible for the implementation of public policy in the spheres entrusted thereto. The Agency must ensure the implementation of environmental protection policies, obtaining the best parity between expected results and budgetary allocations approved by the law on the annual budget. The Agency performs the functions in the following areas of activity: (a) prevention of environmental pollution; (b) protection of atmospheric air and prevention of climate change; (c) protection and regulation of water resources management; (d) protection and regulation of the use of flora and fauna, aquatic biological resources; (e) conservation of biodiversity and management of protected areas; (f) waste management; and (g) biosecurity.
